Center develops web-based portal to report pesticide reactions

The National Pesticide Information Center (NPIC) has developed a web-based portal for veterinary reporting of adverse reactions to pesticides. NPIC’s Veterinary Incident Reporting Portal was developed in collaboration with the AVMA Clinical Practitioners Advisory Committee, the AVMA Council on Biologic and Therapeutic Agents, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In its first year, veterinary professionals submitted information about more than 150 incidents.

It was designed to be user-friendly for busy veterinary professionals. When adverse reactions are observed, a report can be submitted in five minutes or less. About 30,000 reports of adverse effects in pets are received by the US EPA each year. Reports vary in quality, and this portal is expected to generate more reliable data from veterinarians.
