Veterinary students who are graduating this coming June and intending on practicing in food animal medicine may want to investigate Ohio’s veterinary large animal loan repayment program. Veterinarians who agree to practice large animal medicine in a designated “shortage area” for up to two years may be eligible to receive up to $20,000 in veterinary student loan repayment funds. A federal program also has loan repayment funds but complete details on how the money will be awarded is not yet available. The Ohio program is administered by the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board, which has a May 1, 2010, deadline for applications for a 2010 award.
