Hartz Mountain Corporation is recalling 7,056 one-ounce containers of fish food from four specific lots because they may be contaminated with Salmonella, after a random sample testing conducted by the company detected Salmonella in lots of 1 oz. Wardley Advanced Nutrition Perfect Protein Tropical Flake Fish Food. The fish food was shipped nationally from Dec. 20, 2011, through March 15, 2012. The recalled containers of Wardley Advanced Nutrition Perfect Protein Tropical Flake Fish Food (UPC number 0-43324-00591-7) are isolated to the lot codes PP34911, PP34912, PP35011 and PP35012, which were manufactured at the company’s Pleasant Plain, Ohio, facility. The company said it has not received any reports of animals or humans becoming ill as a result of coming into contact with this product. Fish owners who purchased this product should check the lot code on their containers; if the code matches any of the above, or if a lot code cannot be found, immediately discontinue use of the fish food and throw it away.
